Day 21 - 23 Byron Bay to Caloundra
28 - 30 June 2011
28.06.2011 - 30.06.2011
24 °C
28 - 29 June Byron Bay
The weather has not been very nice over these two days.
Tuesday night just after tea we had to go out and put the awning down as the wind came up. It is very scary when the wind blows hard and the awning is flapping. Awning have been known to rip in a bad wind.
Wednesday we spent most of the day in the van watching movies as the weather was bad. Blowing a gale and raining. The wind was so bad through the night that it rocking the van.
Off to Caloundra tomorrow. Hope the weather is better in Queensland, though, from the weather reports its looks like it is all the way up the coast.
30 June Travel to Caloundra
Left around 8am this morning heading to Dickie Beach, Caloundra. Should have around a 3 to 3-1/2 hour drive. All on free ways, so should be a easy trip.
Weather is a little better today but still light showers on and off all the way.
Arrived at Dickie Beach just before lunch. After setting up we went exploring, checking out where to shop and having a look around at all the very nice places around. Shelley Beach & Kings beach look very nice, but lots of high risers.

Dicky Beach is named after the steamboat SS Dicky which ran aground in 1893. It is the only beach in the world to be named after a ship wreck. The wreck remains today on the beach.

The park gave us some vouchers to use at the Surf Club, which is just outside the park boundry, so we went for dinner. Very nice. Stayed for a while as they were running meat raffles. No luck we didn't win anything.
